Her boyfriend may be known for putting out fires on Chicago Fire, but Taylor Kinney's girlfriend, Ashley Cruger, is shutting down her own drama after "hate" from One Chicago fans.
Kinney has played Lieutenant Kelly Severide since Season 1 of Chicago Fire, NBC's procedural drama following the personal and professional lives of firefighters and paramedics at the fictional Firehouse 51. The series — which premiered in 2012 and is created by Dick Wolf, the same mind behind the Law & Order and FBI franchises — is the first show in NBC's One Chicago franchise, which also includes Chicago P.D. and Chicago Med.
Cruger, who was first linked to Kinney in April 2022, took to her Instagram Story on September 7, 2023, with a message to Chicago Fire fans who claim Kinney is "only with" her because she's "good in bed." "Sometimes I see comments, sometimes I don't. It doesn't matter either way. Today, someone said he's only with me because I'm good in bed," she said in a video. She continued, "Babe, that's what you're telling people? That is the sweetest thing I've ever heard. Just from looking at me, you got that? You're invited to my wedding. It's giving bridesmaid energy, maybe flower girl."
In another Instagram Story, Cruger acknowledged that the "hate comments" only make up a small amount of the messages she receives, with "sweet and kind" notes from Chicago Fire fans consisting of the majority of the feedback she reads.
In August 2023, Cruger shared a photo of her and Kinney at dinner with some friends. "You have strength tolerating those s—t heads," her friend commented, to which Cruger responded, "strength and no choice come back and balance the group out !!" Another of Cruger's friends commented for her not to "engage" in the negative comments, to hwich she responded, "~r e l a x ~.
After months of social media silence, Cruger confirmed she and Kinney were still together with a tweet in April 2023. The tweet included a photo of Cruger, Kinney and their friends at a restaurant. "So happy to see you and Taylor out with friends," a Twitter user commented. Cruger also confirmed she and Kinney were still together later that month with a series of photos on Twitter of them celebrating Easter, which included a shot of them kissing. "Happy Easter," Cruger captioned the photos.
